History of Geelong Series 1

These picture is contributed towards Geelong City Council and the whole picture collection book can be found at Geelong Regional Library. I must've misplaced the reference and title of the book but will be available upon request. So lets roll back into the past....









































Because of its 'unscrupulous' way of uploading the pictures, I'll separate into 2 entries...

My Sketches Series 01

Lets reveal the magik behind my signature sketching; we'll start with the raw product then lead to the end product.
Firstly, I modelled my design with SketchUp so that it is easy and fast to edit. Hence I picked this angle of the model. I wanted to show the relation between structure, void and entrances (lift door and library entrance shown).

Step 1:



This is the 'red-column' sketch up scenary that attracted Prof Des Smith straightaway. He thought that it was eye-catching.
I liked the fact it was simple but too simple to be able to convey any message.




Step 2:
I traced the drawing onto a lightbox to be able to see all lines and things, I added details and other refined elements of my design. The thing about hand drawings is your drawing tells your anticipation of soul into your design. There is originality and authenticity...




Hand sketched on a normal 80gm white Double AA paper, the detailings included are railings, lift door and entrance to the library.







Step 3: Tweaking and photomontaging in Adobe Photoshop! Probably the best process ever because I enjoyed the detailings and refined look of from the 1st sketch and probably this picture actually depicts what is going on in the building.






The column color were changed so the attention are pulled to the humble railings, and human
to show relative scale. Timber flooring were used but however, not to take away the simplicity of the whole picture.

My Final Posters as of 16th Oct 07

For this final review of SRD464, I presented 3 posters; 2 from previous submissions including interval and one board for the final refine.


1. Poster number 1 has all the info about the building, plans, development sketches and also interior sketches that depicts about the building. The second board continued this story with sections and photomontaged elevation, some other interior sketches and essential development sketches. The last poster is the recent submission of lighting and structures. I made it simple because my part of building is a bit tricky but anyway, it was a good experiment and play with making model at big scale.

Interval images

The idea of lantern comes from hanging lamps of Little Malop Street and Federation Square. These designs are outdoor, thought it would be cool if I bring it inside. Also users can have a closer look to them on first and second floor.

I intentionally keep the design simple and clean. Three rectangles interlock together and use the slot methods. Glue is not required and relatively easy for mass production.

The model turned out quite good, except need a denser structure and a thin layer of paper to cover up the light. Also the electronic doesn't work - it was way too dangerous.

This is the second poster, following up Julie's previous post of the first poster.

Design Attempt #1

At this stage, a disheartened design is produced. A structural model will be constructed to determine the value of this design and its worthiness to proceed. Too much wide open space.

Roof Plans

Roof plans - metal roofing with timber slats. Creates a contrast between two elements accentuating paritcular nodes with the structure.
